Regina X. Jiron is a self-admitted compulsive beader who started creating jewelry more than eight years ago. What began as a hobby soon turned into a passion, and Regina launched Bead Jewelry by Shopgirl in 2006 to showcase her award-winning line of eclectic and elegant wearable art. Regina’s design style is a fusion of ancient and contemporary elements, resulting in avant garde accessories that delight her discerning customers. She caters to artistic women who appreciate the hand-crafted beauty and intricate detail in each of her pieces.
“I have finally found my love in bead weaving,” says Jiron. “Athletes talk about being in ‘the zone.’ That’s how I feel when I am working on a freeform peyote piece - needleweaving those tiny beads, coaxing them against one another and combining the colors. I love coming up with different textures, especially when there is a visual and tactile contrast. Freeform pieces that look heavy, bumpy and stiff can actually be light and flexible.”
Bead Jewelry by Shopgirl work has been featured on WickedlyChic.com and CraftRevolution.Com, where she was recognized as the Best in Show winner of a 2006 beading challenge. Regina’s design expertise has been showcased in Step by Step Beads, a popular bead working magazine, and Belle Armoire. She has also been selected to participate in prestigious juried shows, including the National Museum of Women in the Arts’ Holiday Show and the American Craft Council’s The American Craft Show. A whole collection of her jewelry is featured in the book 1,000 Jewelry Inspirations: Beads, Baubles, Dangles, and Chains (Quarry Books, June 2008).
Regina’s career path has wound its way through positions in the advertising, marketing and travel industries and even through graduate school for an MBA. No matter how demanding her work life was, though, she always spent her free time indulging her creative side. This unique combination of intelligence and creativity helps her create luxurious designs that dazzle customers and critics alike.
